Robin Van Persie scored in the 42nd minute with a pass from Theo Walcott. However, Borussia Dortmund equalized in the 88th minute from a stunning volley by Perisic. New signings Yossi Benayoun, Per Mertesacker, and Mikel Arteta all played the full 90th minutes.

Notes

• Arteta had to go to the medical team for his bleeding head in the 59th minute.
• Barcary Sagna was the only player booked (yellow card)
• Wojciech Szczesny had a terrific save in the 81st minute.
• When Marouane Chamakh was subbed for RVP, there was no issue of who the captain armband went to as RVP gave it to Alex Song.
• Interesting Commentary: The Alex Song/ Emmanuel Frimpong partnership was called SongPong when everyone was calling for their partnership. SongPonged is also now a verb.
